ROTTERDAM DEBUT
OLIVIER TUINIER
For many years, Olivier Tuinier moved from one place to another without paying attention to his surroundings. It wasn't until the first lockdown that he started carrying a small analog camera on his walks. This simple change made him more conscious of the world around him. As he walks through the streets, certain things always catch his eye: a brightly colored door on a gray building, an unattractive house among beautiful ones, faded glory, or a lone plant standing by itself. He emphasizes these contrasts Often, it's only when you zoom out that you see the whole picture. Only then do you notice how an object might clash with its surroundings? For him, this contrast holds significant meaning. Olivier will exhibit his work for the first time in Rotterdam.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
PAULIEN DUBELAAR
Immerse yourself in the many artisanal printing techniques Paulien Dubelaar uses to print her images. Paulien works with a variety of unique printing techniques, like photo-etchings, cyanotypes and Japanese techniques like Toyobo and Zokin Gake. Paulien deals with existential questions, such as: the meaning of life and death, how can we live a significant existence, who are we as humans? Where answers are not readily available, she tries to explore with her images: in greatness and insignificance, invulnerability and transience, in stillness and motion, in darkness and in light. She feels connected to the ideas of existentialist philosophers and uses them as inspiration in her photographic oeuvre.
PURE PHOTOGRAPHY
SARA PUNT
With great pride we unveil new work by Sara Punt for this issue of Haute Photographie Rotterdam 2025. The impressive image by Sara Punt is part of her most recent series which will be on show at Haute.. Punt’s work, characterized by strong black and white contrasts and bodies that take on abstract shapes, are the product of a personal research. Abstraction is an important part of the goal Punt wants to achieve with her work: acceptance of the body.
FROM RUSSIA
ANNA RIABOVA
The photography of Anna Riabova showcased at Haute Photographie is deeply inspired by fine art, echoing the styles of renowned artists such as Vermeer, Hammershøi, Whistler, Magritte, Adrian Kurt, and Andrew Wyeth. Rooted in symbolism, Dutch still-life painting, and surrealism, these images embrace minimal action—where at first glance, nothing seems to happen. Yet, each composition is rich with meaning, as objects subtly reveal traces of the past, present, and future to those who take a closer look. Anna lives and works in Riga, Latvia.

PHOTO COLLAGES
TAMARA STOFFERS
Tamara Stoffers is specialized in creating analogue collages where she examines the visual language of the Soviet Union, which has a mysterious appeal to her. Its typical visual language in architecture and art feels nostalgic to some and is still relevant to others. She composes her images of old books concerning the USSR, cutting and pasting to create new situations. By digging through archives without a preconceived plan, she subconsciously finds visual connections in the material that does not aim to show reality, but a world as it should be.

FROM FRANCE
KATI DOVELLOS
Kati Dovellos treats photography as a tactile, evolving medium, balancing control and the unpredictability of historical processes. Her portraiture explores the human figure as a space for encounters, symbolism, and dualities—sacred and profane, rootedness and escape. Each image is unique, housed in hand-sculpted frames of wood, brass, and salvaged metal, blending photography with sculpture.
Inspired by Orthodox icons from her childhood, she applies fine gold to portraits and landscapes, capturing the poetic shimmer of light. Her work fuses tradition, experimentation, and storytelling.
ROTTERDAM DEBUT
ANOUK VAN TETERING
Dutch artist Anouk has gained international recognition for her striking artworks, developed during her time at the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Working with collected small objects, she blurs the line between art and design, driven by curiosity for the unseen and an appreciation for overlooked details. In a fast-paced digital world, Anouk finds magic in slowing down, revealing hidden beauty by focusing on the details. Her evolving work remains distinct and recognizable, always capturing the essence of her inspiration. FROM SOUTH AFRICA
DAVID BALLAM
David Ballam was born and schooled in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was introduced to the camera by Obie Oberholzer and in 2004 gained his Fine Art Degree with Honours in photography. After a number of years experience in the commercial world of photography he reverted his attention back to his Fine Art roots. Intrigued and inspired by new faces, places, cultures and customs David focuses his attention on taking any opportunity to travel and explore the African landscape, finding and creating images that transcend the subject matter into Fine Art prints.
David will have is debut in Rotterdam, where he will show his latest project ‘The Cattle of Kings’, shot in South Sudan, which captures the essence of both the unique landscape and culture of the Mandari people, for whom their Ankole-Watusi cattle are both the foundation of their social structure and a central axis of their culture.
David’s work is powered by Ariekanarie.
GRADUATED IN 2024
CARENCE KORZELIUS
Fresh from the Fotoacademie Amsterdam, Carence Korzelius took the Japanese philosophy of Chōwa as her starting point. Chōwa means 'the pursuit of a life in balance'. A life in balance is one where all aspects are in harmony. She has delved deeper into what the Chōwa philosophy entails. It thus forms a basis for her attitude and mindset. Through her images, she aims to poetically translate her quest for silence, balance, and tranquility which she cannot always find. It can be seen in a broader sense as self-portraits that tap into deeper layers and feelings connected to specific moments and places. It all revolves around the balance between structure and freedom, rhythm and routine, and the choice between staying somewhere or following your path.
FROM VINTAGE TO CONTEMPORARY
BARRY KORNBLUH
During the early 1970s, Kornbluh began photographing while pursuing a degree in Art History. He moved to New York in 1977 and studied photography with Lisette Model who guided him towards a personal and intuitive style. During the 1980s, he worked in the archive of Magnum Photos and later freelanced as assistant to Elliott Erwitt, Susan Meiselas and Paul Fusco. Soon he was taking on his own assignments which included photographing the New York jazz scene as well as making portraits of literary and art world notables. However, his personal work remained at the forefront.
In the 1990s, Kornbluh moved to Amsterdam, where his poetic images of family and friends captured in grainy black & white took on new importance. In 2006, he joined Kahmann Gallery and would soon gain recognition for his dark and dreamy nudes and atmospheric landscapes. Although Kornbluh is a master of analogue photography, he has recently embraced the digital printing of his work allowing him to produce images in large formats.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
NANCY POERAN
Nancy Poeran her work explores identity and perception, rejecting the notion of a single reality. Instead, it embraces the idea that identity is ever-changing, shaped by multiple layers and facets—yet always rooted in a deeper core, a soul. Blending photography, Artificial Intelligence (AI), sketching, and other techniques, each piece emerges through an ongoing dialogue with AI. Constant adjustments and varied techniques uncover essence and emotion. Contrasts such as light and dark, organic and geometric forms are intentionally used to highlight their dynamic interplay, deepening the search for meaning.

GET YOUR PORTRAIT DONE
MAARTEN KOCH
It seems like magic. Nature, a nostalgic camera, and a silver plate. In seconds, your image travels 170 years back in time. To then return to the now through a concoction of elements. Immortalized in silver. This is photography in its rawest form. Maarten Koch has elevated this craft to an art form. His play of silver and light gives new meaning to the sensitive plate.

THEME IMAGE HAUTE PHOTOGRAPHIE ROTTERDAM 2025
NINA HAUBEN
Nina Hauben (b. 1996) is an Amsterdam-based artist and the creator of this edition’s theme image for Haute Photographie. Her work serves as a visual translation of experiences and emotions, bypassing (un)spoken words to express inner thoughts through imagery—an ongoing journey of self-discovery. Each series unfolds in phases, offering a reflective space where shifting perspectives emerge over time. Phase 1: "WITH(OUT)" explores the fragile nature of memory. "In the end, all that's left are the memories we hold. I fear they will fade like wisps of smoke, leaving an unfillable void. Since I can’t hear your voice, your footsteps, or feel your presence, I have to pretend—so that’s what I do." Phase 2: "Silent Dialogue" marks a transition from stillness to life, blurring the lines between reality and memory, presence and absence. This phase invites viewers to reflect on the imprints memories leave behind and the silent dialogues they continue to hold.
