AMSTERDAM DEBUT

OLIVIER TUINIER

For many years, Olivier Tuinier moved from one place to another without paying attention to his surroundings. It wasn't until the first lockdown that he started carrying a small analog camera on his walks. This simple change made him more conscious of the world around him. As he walks through the streets, certain things always catch his eye: a brightly colored door on a gray building, an unattractive house among beautiful ones, faded glory, or a lone plant standing by itself. He emphasizes these contrasts Often, it's only when you zoom out that you see the whole picture. Only then do you notice how an object might clash with its surroundings? For him, this contrast holds significant meaning. Olivier will exhibit his work for the first time at Haute.

BIDDING ON THE SPOT

HAUTE AUCTION

Haute Auctions is launching a new way of auctioning during Haute Photographie. This will allow enthusiasts and collectors to bid on important 20th-century and contemporary works on the spot and ultimately buy them at interesting prices. Haute Auctions has been striving for several years to be a new dynamic and progressive auction platform. We mainly focus on photographs and editions by contemporary photographers. In addition, we like to engage with the boundaries of photography. Through expertise and individualized customer service, collectors ask us for advice on market trends and insights. Come see us on the 18-22 September and leave a bid on the spot.

HAUTE PHOTOGRAPHIE THEME IMAGE

SARA PUNT

With great pride we unveil our campaign image for Haute Photographie Amsterdam 2024. The impressive image, ‘Cor Cordium’ by Sara Punt is part of her most recent series which will be on show at Haute.. Punt’s work, characterized by strong black and white contrasts and bodies that take on abstract shapes, are the product of a personal research. Abstraction is an important part of the goal Punt wants to achieve with her work: acceptance of the body.

INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS

UFFE RAUPACH FROM DENMARK

Danish Artist Director and photographer @ufferaupach works with an overall theme of universal cohesion. His photographic work is an inner personal and universal odyssey of our fleeting existence about the profound emotional experiences of love, time, and nature toward inner peace. At Haute, he will show works from his series ‘Human Nature’ in which he examines how different human habitats define us as a person. This has strengthened his belief that humans are interwoven with natural phenomena, rather than being detached from nature. How does the surrounding nature shape our inner nature?

NEW WORK

NEELTJE DE VRIES

Dutch Photographer and rising star Neeltje de Vries will present startling new work at Haute Amsterdam. In her work, she looks for images that touch the viewer. Images that tell a story. Only working with models she recognizes something of herself in, a little piece of the artist is present in all these story’s. Discover them at Haute.

MORE THAN 50 PHOTOGRAPHERS WORLDWIDE

MEET & GREET

Haute Photographie provides a great opportunity to network and meet people from the field. Ranging from fine art to documentary photography, all genres, and professional levels will be covered. Every day there will be more than 30 independent photographers present and eager to have a conversation. This is an extraordinary facet of the art fair, so come experience it yourself!

PHOTO COLLAGES

TAMARA STOFFERS

Tamara Stoffers is specialized in creating analogue collages where she examines the visual language of the Soviet Union, which has a mysterious appeal to her. Its typical visual language in architecture and art feels nostalgic to some and is still relevant to others. She composes her images of old books concerning the USSR, cutting and pasting to create new situations. By digging through archives without a preconceived plan, she subconsciously finds visual connections in the material that does not aim to show reality, but a world as it should be.

AMSTERDAM DEBUT

IMKE WASSINK

Self-taught street photographer Imke Wassink will show her work in print for the first time at Haute Amsterdam. Photography is her way of observing, interpreting, and eventually getting to know new cities. With a camera in her hand, she’s recognizing the simplicity of beauty, and how it resides in the most unexpected scenes. The photos exposed are part of her series “Streets in Central America”, inspired by the vivid colors and warm light of the cities in Guatemala and Mexico. It’s her observation of the movement of people in their urban environment, characterized by graphic lines and strong shades.

AMSTERDAM DEBUT

BRENT SOUVEREIN

Self-taught multidisciplinary creative Brent Souverein will have his photographic debut at Haute, showing his work for the very first time. Having designed and created bags, clothing, and furniture he now put his focus on photography. Since he started his photography journey seven years ago, he has learned to perceive the world around him differently. He developed a strong desire to capture the beauty that surrounds him, even in sometimes dark places. With his camera over his shoulder, he wanders around, searching for images that evoke emotions within him. It is this feeling that he’s constantly pursuing as he captures the world around him.

POST HUMOUS

SAMY IVERSON

Young photographer Samy Iverson passed away in 2023 at the young age of 21. His family will bring his gilded pictures to Haute to give him the stage he deserves. Samy possessed an innate curiosity about the world and embraced each moment with an open heart. If you placed Samy in a room full of people, one could observe him effortlessly connecting with everyone present. His kindness and ability to always speak calmly defined Samy as a person of exceptional character, qualities that seamlessly translated into his identity as an artist and photographer. Samy’s multicultural upbringing, rooted in both Egypt and America, significantly influenced his outlook on life. The combination of experiences in Cairo and Chicago shaped his unique perspective.

FROM SOUTH AFRICA

DAVID BALLAM

David Ballam was born and schooled in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was introduced to the camera by Obie Oberholzer and in 2004 gained his Fine Art Degree with Honours in photography. After a number of years experience in the commercial world of photography he reverted his attention back to his Fine Art roots. Intrigued and inspired by new faces, places, cultures and customs David focuses his attention on taking any opportunity to travel and explore the African landscape, finding and creating images that transcend the subject matter into Fine Art prints.
David will have is debut at Haute in September, where he will show his latest project ‘The Cattle of Kings’, shot in South Sudan, which captures the essence of both the unique landscape and culture of the Mandari people, for whom their Ankole-Watusi cattle are both the foundation of their social structure and a central axis of their culture.

JUST GRADUATED

CARENCE KORTZELIUS

Fresh from the Fotoacademie Amsterdam, Carence Kortzelius took the Japanese philosophy of Chōwa as her starting point. Chōwa means 'the pursuit of a life in balance'. A life in balance is one where all aspects are in harmony. She has delved deeper into what the Chōwa philosophy entails. It thus forms a basis for her attitude and mindset. Through her images, she aims to poetically translate her quest for silence, balance, and tranquility which she cannot always find. It can be seen in a broader sense as self-portraits that tap into deeper layers and feelings connected to specific moments and places. It all revolves around the balance between structure and freedom, rhythm and routine, and the choice between staying somewhere or following your path.

MUSEUM SELECTION

RUTGER TEN BROEKE

This year, Dutch grandmaster of photography Rutger ten Broeke turned 80. To celebrate this special age and to honor an oeuvre that spans almost 60 years, Museum Hilversum has recently opened  ‘In Hindsight’, an exhibition dedicated to ten Broeke’s life’s work.  We are thrilled to show a selection of Rutger ten Broeke’s work that was part of this impressive exhibition. The works shown at Haute represent his signature: the female nude in the landscape.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

NANCY POERAN +
HASSAN RAGAB

By showing the works of Hassan Ragab and Nancy Poeran, Haute takes it’s first steps into the new but ubiquitous world of AI.  By integrating AI into his multidisciplinary practice, Ragab draws from his experience as an architect to create dreamlike images of cities, buildings and interiors, often inspired by cities like his hometown Alexandria. Nancy Poeran’s work  is a combination of photography combined with AI, sketch and other techniques. She creates various figures, by entering into a dialogue with artificial intelligence (AI), constantly manipulating the images and applying different techniques searching for the soul and essence.

© Anna Riabova

THE YOUNGEST TALENT

ROLF VAN ROOIJ

Rolf van Rooij (b. 2003) started his photographic practice by creating photographs while exploring urban environments. In these photographs, he often includes people in a rather abstract form. This gives the otherwise graphic representation of e.g. architecture something humane and gracious. This can sometimes result in a detached feeling for the viewer. Throughout the years, Rolf had experimented with abstraction in his work. He has a profound love for the city of Rome, where he shot his new work he will show at Haute in September which combines his love for architecture and lining for abstraction.

FROM LATVIA

ANNA RIABOVA

The source of inspiration for Anna Riabova’s photos has always been fine art. Therefore, if you think her photos remind you of something you have already seen somewhere, you are right - they can evoke associations with her favorite artists and art styles, such as symbolism, Dutch still-life paintings, and surrealism. She particularly likes images where there is very little action. It seems that nothing happens to them. But the world of objects is filled with information, and looking at them, you can say even more about what happened, is happening or will happen in this space.

GET YOUR PORTRAIT DONE

MAARTEN KOCH

It seems like magic. Nature, a nostalgic camera, and a silver plate. In seconds, your image travels 170 years back in time. To then return to the now through a concoction of elements. Immortalized in silver. This is photography in its rawest form. Maarten Koch has elevated this craft to an art form. His play of silver and light gives new meaning to the sensitive plate.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

PAULIEN DUBELAAR

Immerse yourself in the many artisanal printing techniques Paulien Dubelaar uses to print her images. Paulien works with a variety of unique printing techniques, like photo-etchings, cyanotypes and Japanese techniques like Toyobo and Zokin Gake. Paulien deals with existential questions, such as: the meaning of life and death, how can we live a significant existence, who are we as humans? Where answers are not readily available, she tries to explore with her images: in greatness and insignificance, invulnerability and transience, in stillness and motion, in darkness and in light. She feels connected to the ideas of existentialist philosophers and uses them as inspiration in her photographic oeuvre.
